Why You'll Love It

Snow Fountain® is one of the most graceful small trees you can grow. In spring, its long, cascading branches are completely covered in pure white blossoms — a waterfall of flowers that makes it an instant focal point in any garden or patio. Unlike older weeping cherry varieties, Snow Fountain® has improved resistance to common cherry diseases, making it a more reliable long-term investment. And when the flowers fade, the graceful weeping form and orange fall foliage keep it interesting through the seasons.

What Makes It Special

  • Graceful cascading weeping habit — a true focal point in any garden
  • Improved pest and disease resistance compared to older weeping cherry varieties
  • Orange fall foliage color extends ornamental interest beyond the spring bloom

Care Instructions

Planting & Watering
Planting

Plant in full sun in humus-rich, well-drained soil. Good drainage is essential for long-term health. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and at the same depth. Backfill, water thoroughly, and apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk. Good air circulation around the canopy helps prevent disease.

Watering

Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish a broad root system. Once established, reduce watering frequency while still avoiding prolonged drought during very hot weather. Do not overwater — consistently wet soil is harmful.

Pruning & Fertilizing
Pruning

Prune after flowering to preserve the weeping habit and avoid removing next year's flower buds. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Structural pruning should be done carefully to maintain the natural cascading form. Remove any upright shoots that disrupt the weeping habit.

Fertilizing

Feed lightly in early spring if needed. Avoid heavy fertilization, which can promote excessive leafy growth at the expense of flowers and can make the tree more susceptible to disease.

Winter Protection

Hardy to Zone 4. No special winter protection is needed in most climates. Good drainage and good air circulation are the most important factors for long-term health.

Good to Know

Snow Fountain® is grafted onto an upright rootstock, which creates the weeping canopy. Any shoots that emerge from below the graft union or from the trunk should be removed promptly, as they will grow upright and disrupt the weeping form.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does Snow Fountain® bloom?
Snow Fountain® blooms in early to mid-spring, typically April in most zones. The pure white flowers appear before or alongside the emerging foliage, creating a dramatic cascading effect.
How long does Snow Fountain® bloom?
The bloom period lasts approximately 2–3 weeks. After flowering, the graceful weeping branches remain attractive through the growing season, and the foliage turns orange-red in fall.
How tall does Snow Fountain® get?
In tree form, Snow Fountain® typically reaches 8–15 ft tall with a weeping canopy spread of 6–8 ft. The cascading branches create a graceful, fountain-like silhouette.
Does Snow Fountain® need full sun?
Yes — full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sun daily) is required for the best bloom performance and overall plant health. Avoid shaded locations.
Is Snow Fountain® fragrant?
The flowers have a light, delicate fragrance — not as strong as some cherry varieties, but pleasant up close. The visual impact of the cascading white blooms is the primary ornamental feature.
